Somewhere out there in Ohio and West Virginia hanging on a wall or perhaps collecting dust in an old attic .or outbuilding, are valuable wall plaques that were produced by Rookwood Pottery from 1900 up to 1940 in an abandoned eastern avenue schoolhouse in Cincinnati,
These beautiful wall plaques were created by several different artists who worked at Rookwood Pottery. and were made by slip decoration and later finished in vellum glaze and produced in a variety of beautiful pastel colors. most of these wall plaques found today are signed with the artists signature or initals. along with a roman numeral that tells you exactly when the plaque was orginally made,
The scenes on Rookwood Plaques were usually taken from local Ohio landscapes with exception of the venetian scenes by Rookwood artist Ed Diers and Carl Schmdt.
Several Rookwood plaques found today by Ed Diers and Carl Schmidt were of beautiful snowcapped mountains that were most likely taken from paintings that hung on a wall in Cincinnati's Art Museum .
Rookwood Wall Plaques produced between 1900 and 1905 were mostly of Dutch and English gentlemen, including American Indians,
Rookwood wall plaques came in a different variety of sizes, the smallest was a 4 x8 , and the largest a 14 x16, Most of the larger plaques can sell up to 12,000 each today at Rookwood Auctions. and the smallest from 3.000 up to 6.000
Many collectors today seek Rookwood Wall Plaques by their favorite artists , such as Fred Rothenbusch, E.T. Hurley. Ed Diers, Sarah Sax , and other artists
